Description
This package helps with recovery after any surgery where anesthesia has been used. It supports the liver in processing anaesthetics, modulates the postoperative inflammatory response without the side effects of NSAIDs, protects the intestinal wall after surgical stress and supports the emotional processing process of the procedure.
Why additional support after surgery?
Surgery is a major event for a dog or cat’s body on several levels at the same time. Anesthesia drugs are broken down by the liver and temporarily increase the oxidative load of liver cells. Surgical stress activates cortisol, which suppresses the immune system and temporarily weakens the intestinal barrier. Tissue damage around the procedure triggers an inflammatory response that is necessary for healing, but slows down recovery when overactivated.
At the same time, many animals are given an NSAID and sometimes an antibiotic as standard after surgery. Both are legitimate and often necessary, but they also have side effects that burden recovery: NSAIDs inhibit prostaglandins that protect the intestinal wall and kidneys, antibiotics disrupt the microbiome. The NGD Care Surgery Recovery Package is designed to support this regular process and to deal with the side effects, not to replace it.
Regular approach: what works well and what falls short
Infusion, NSAIDs and antibiotics are each useful at their own level after surgery. However, they also do things that put a strain on recovery and are not compensated for by regular follow-up treatment.
| Ground of appeal | What it does | Shortcoming | NGD Care supplement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infusion (NaCl/Ringer) | Fluid balance, support blood pressure, protect kidney blood flow during anesthesia | Does not provide antioxidants, building materials or anti-inflammatory drugs. Stops after the procedure. | Glutathione and Vitamin C for oxidative protection. L-Glutamine for intestinal barrier. |
| NSAID (meloxicam, carprofen) | Analgesic and anti-inflammatory via COX inhibition. Effective for acute postoperative pain. | Inhibits COX-1, which means that the intestinal wall and kidneys are less protected. In cats, the risk of kidney failure is already apparent after one recurrence. | PEA Complex modulates inflammation via PPAR-alpha without COX inhibition. L-Glutamine protects the intestinal wall that exposes NSAID. |
| Antibiotic (amoxicillin, clavulanic acid) | Infection prevention or treatment of bacterial contamination around the procedure. | Broad-spectrum action impairs commensal intestinal flora. Increases risk of dysbiosis and leaky gut in recovery period. | Prebiotic Fibers and Fermented Probiotics protect the microbiome during and after the cure. |
How does the Operation Recovery Package work?
The package is started immediately after surgery and used for four to six weeks. All components are started as soon as possible because the recovery processes start immediately after the procedure.
Liposomal Glutathione directly supports the liver in processing anaesthetics via the glutathione-S-transferase system and protects liver cells from oxidative damage. Liposomal Vitamin C is the most direct antioxidant for tissue protection and, as a cofactor for collagen synthesis, makes a direct contribution to wound healing. PEA Complex (PEA and Boswellia) is the key to postoperative inflammatory modulation without the bowel and kidney risks of NSAIDs. PEA inhibits mast cell degranulation and modulates pro-inflammatory mediators via PPAR-alpha. Boswellia selectively inhibits the leukotrienes via 5-lipoxygenase inhibition. Together, they provide broader inflammation modulation than an NSAID alone, and do so without COX inhibition. PEA is therefore a direct addition to the regular NSAIDs: it covers the inflammatory pathways that the NSAID does not touch and partly compensates for the intestinal risks that the NSAID entails. L-Glutamine protects the intestinal wall that becomes vulnerable due to surgical stress and NSAID use and prevents bacteria from the intestine from entering the bloodstream. Post-op Recovery Essence (flower essences) supports the emotional processing process of the procedure on an energetic level.
In long-term anesthesia or animals with impaired liver function: Liposomal Ubiquinone (CoQ10) for mitochondrial protection of liver cells and Liposomal Curcumin for additional NF-kB inhibition and liver detoxification support. In case of antibiotic use around the operation: Prebiotic Fibers and Fermented Probiotics to protect the microbiome and prevent dysbiosis during and after the cure. For orthopaedic procedures: Mobility Support for direct cartilage and joint capsular support via collagen types I, II and V, hyaluronic acid and chondroitin. In animals that eat poorly or are visibly stressed after surgery, CBD oil stimulates appetite via anandamide production and CB1 activation, inhibits nausea via 5-HT1A serotonin receptors, and lowers the stress response that suppresses appetite—without sedation.
When do you see results?
The first 48 to 72 hours are the most critical phase for liver detoxification. After that, the focus shifts to tissue repair, intestinal repair and immune recovery.
Liver actively processes anesthesia. Glutathione and Vitamin C provide immediate support. PEA inhibits acute mast cell activation around the wound.
Better appetite and alertness. Wound healing is easier. Reduced postoperative stiffness and pain. Animal more emotionally stable.
Complete recovery of energy and appetite. Wound healed well. Intestinal function stabilized. Liver values normalized.
Full recovery. Package can be phased out. In the event of major interventions or older animals, continue longer in consultation.
Is your animal recovering more slowly than expected or are the liver values still elevated after two weeks? Schedule an intake with Stefan Veenstra via NatuurlijkGezondeDieren.nl.

Suitable after any surgery
This package is an addition to the postoperative care of the treating veterinarian, not a replacement. Always follow the advice of the veterinarian and consult if in doubt about combinations with prescribed medication.
Want to read the full scientific background?
Stefan Veenstra DVM explains how the liver processes anesthesia, why the intestinal wall is vulnerable after surgery, what NSAIDs and antibiotics do to recovery and how this package supports that.
What supplements do you pause around the operation?
Some supplements that are safe on a daily basis give perioperative risk via blood thinning, blood pressure drop or interaction with liver enzymes (CYP450) that also process anaesthetics. Always discuss your full supplement list with your veterinarian before the procedure.
