Description

NGD Care Biofilm Balance is an enzyme complex developed to disrupt pathogenic biofilms in the gastrointestinal tract in a targeted manner. A mature biofilm consists of a protective matrix of polysaccharides, proteins, lipids, mucins and microbial DNA. This matrix makes bacteria, yeasts and parasitic structures less sensitive to immune cells, oxygen, pH fluctuations and antimicrobial interventions. The combination of enzymes in Biofilm Balance is specifically tailored to break down these matrix layers, so that pathogenic microorganisms become more accessible to the immune system and additional therapies.

The formula contains amylase and other polysaccharide enzymes to break down the extracellular sugar matrix (EPS). Protease targets protein structures, including lectins and adhesion proteins that bacteria need to attach to the intestinal mucosa. Lipase supports the dissolution of fat-rich components of the biofilm, which provide, among other things, the water-repellent and protective properties of the matrix.

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) enhances this process by loosening disulfide bonds in the mucus layer and biofilm structures, making the matrix less viscous and allowing enzymes to penetrate better. NAC also has an antioxidant and mucolytic effect and is described in the literature as one of the most effective substances against bacterial and fungal biofilms, especially in combination with proteases. The combination of enzyme activity and NAC creates a multidimensional attack on biofilms: mechanically, enzymatically, chemically and structurally.

Biofilm Balance is intended as specialized support within integrative intestinal trajectories, for example in case of persistent dysbiosis, recurrent infections, low-grade inflammation, SIBO-like complaints or stagnation of progress in phases 1 and 2 of a gut protocol. Because the breakdown of biofilms can temporarily stimulate detoxification and immune activation, this product is typically used in carefully constructed dosages. The synergy of enzymes with NAC makes this formula powerful, but also well controllable and suitable for therapeutic guidance in human practice.

Dosage and use

  • Dosage
    • based on scientific literature.
    • <12 years old only under medical supervision
    • 12-18 years
      • maintenance 1x daily 1 capsules
      • increased need 2x daily 1 capsules
    • Adults
      • maintenance 1x daily 1 capsules
      • increased need 2x daily 1 capsules
      • Therapeutic dosage (max 4-6 weeks in consultation with doctor or therapist) 2x daily 2 capsules
  • Allergy information
    • Allergen-free: free from gluten, soy, nuts, egg, fish, shellfish
  • Manual
    • Preferably on an empty stomach or 30–60 min before a meal for maximum biofilm activity
    • Always store dry, closed and at room temperature
  • Contraindications
    • Do not use as a single supplement, always in combination with gut detox and anti-inflammatories
    • Active stomach or duodenal ulcers (protease can cause irritation)
    • Pregnancy/lactation (insufficient data)
    • Allergy to enzyme sources
    • Do not use immediately after GI surgery
    • Restraint in severe esophagitis (NAC → reflux sensitivity)
  • Side effects
    • Detoxification reactions such as headache, fatigue, diarrhea, or temporary worsening of symptoms possible with inadequate support of detoxification organs
    • Therefore, in sensitive people, start with half a dose if necessary and build up.
    • Temporary: gas, bubbling, soft stools
    • slight stomach tingling with protease on an empty stomach
  • Interactions
    • Proteases can break down protein coatings of capsules/medications faster → be careful with enteric-coated drugs.
    • Proteases and lipases can theoretically influence the resorption of dietary medications (e.g. thyroid hormone, certain antibiotics).
    • No direct CYP450 interaction.
    • NAC acts mucolytically and can reduce the viscosity of mucus and biofilm → synergy with antimicrobial agents (natural and regular).
    • CYP interactions: mild; NAC mainly affects glutathione pathways (phase II detox).
    • Theoretical interaction with nitroglycerin → risk of headache/flushing due to vasodilation.
    • Proteases can have a slight effect on clotting (protein breakdown) in high doses.
      Caution with DOACs, warfarin, acenocoumarol.
    • May enhance the effect of antibiotics by breaking down biofilm barriers (positive interaction).
Do: keep a distance of at least 1 hour from intake.
