Description
This supplement helps with: recurrent diarrhea, a gut that does not recover after illness or antibiotics, increased intestinal permeability and muscle loss in chronically ill animals. Core component of phase 2 of the NGD Care Bowel Protocol.
How does L-Glutamine work?
L-Glutamine is the primary fuel for the cells of the intestinal wall. These cells completely renew themselves every three to five days and need enormous amounts of energy and building materials to do so. Glutamine provides both. Without enough glutamine, the intestinal wall weakens and substances that should not pass through leak through.
In case of illness, chronic intestinal complaints, surgery or prolonged stress, the own production falls short while the need increases. At that point, glutamine is conditionally essential. Supplementation helps repair the intestinal wall from the inside out and support the immune system in the gut.
Glutamine is also the precursor of glutathione, the most powerful endogenous antioxidant, and thus indirectly helps the liver in detoxification. In cachexia due to cancer or chronic disease, glutamine inhibits muscle breakdown and protects the intestinal wall at the same time.
What does this supplement do?
- Helps with recurring diarrhea and a bowel that just won’t recover
- Restores the intestinal wall from the inside out after infection, antibiotics or illness
- Supports the immune system in the gut via sIgA production
- Helps with muscle breakdown due to chronic illness or recovery
- Phase 2 component of the NGD Care Bowel Protocol
When do you see results?
L-Glutamine works best in an already sanitized intestine. From a systems biology point of view: in an actively inflamed intestinal environment, the effect of glutamine is undermined by continuous damage. Only after the cleansing phase via phase 1 of the Gut Protocol can glutamine reach its full potential.
Glutamine begins to nourish enterocytes and restore tight junction protein expression. Calmer bowel behavior noticeable.
Firmer stools, fewer abdominal complaints. Better food intake visible in more energy and better condition and coat.
Significantly better intestinal barrier. Fewer recurrent infections. Better resistance due to improved sIgA production in the intestine.
In case of chronic intestinal complaints or IBD, use continuously as maintenance. Quitting can cause relapse in structurally reduced bowel function.

Part of a protocol
L-Glutamine is the core piece of phase 2 of the Gut Protocol, the Giardia Protocol and the Operation Recovery Package for intestinal wall repair in dogs, cats and humans.
Works well with
L-Glutamine repairs the intestinal wall from the inside out. The supplements below enhance this recovery through additional pathways.
L-Glutamine repairs the intestinal wall from the inside out via tight junctions. Gut Barrier Support strengthens the barrier from the outside via humic acid and removes toxins via fulvic acid. Together the most complete intestinal wall repair available.
Glutamine is the direct precursor of glutathione. Co-supplementing provides both exogenous glutathione and increased endogenous production. The strongest combination for liver detoxification and cell protection.
L-Glutamine repairs the intestinal epithelium so that B vitamins are better absorbed. B vitamins support the energy production that enterocytes need for recovery. Together phase 2 of the Bowel Protocol.
L-Glutamine gives enterocytes a healthy substrate. Prebiotic Fibers feeds the good bacteria that grow on that restored intestinal wall. Together structure and microbiome for complete intestinal recovery.
