Description
Short summary
This supplement helps with: plaque and tartar, bad breath, red gums, and dental maintenance after professional cleaning. For dogs, and for cats in consultation with the veterinarian.
How does Oral Support work for tartar and bad breath?
Tartar starts with plaque: a biofilm of bacteria that adheres to the tooth surface. If this layer is not disrupted, it calcifies into tartar and the bacteria can inflame the gums. Oral Support works from within on that biofilm and on the balance of the oral microbiome.
The seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum is excreted into the mouth via saliva after ingestion, where it influences the formation of plaque. In dogs, this has been studied in placebo-controlled trials, resulting in less plaque and tartar. Green tea extract (EGCG) and cranberry extract (PACs, proanthocyanidins) inhibit the adhesion of bacteria to the tooth surface.
Three probiotic strains support the oral microbiome. Streptococcus salivarius K12 occurs naturally in the mouth and produces substances (bacteriocines) that inhibit bacteria associated with bad breath. Lactobacillus reuteri and L. acidophilus contribute to a healthy bacterial balance. Calcium hydroxyapatite is the mineral from which tooth enamel is composed and supports the enamel surface upon direct contact with the teeth.
Oral Support is part of the NGD Vet Pro Line: one supplement with the complete base for each acute problem, so you don’t have to combine multiple products yourself. For chronic complaints, the phased approach is the foundation, starting with gut restoration.
What does this supplement do?
- Quickly applicable for bad breath and plaque, as daily dental support from within
- Supports reduced formation of plaque and tartar
- Helps achieve fresher breath via the oral microbiome
- Inhibits bacterial adhesion to teeth and gums
- Three probiotic strains for a healthy oral flora
- Maintenance after professional dental cleaning at the veterinarian
When do you see results?
The oral microbiome changes quickly, tartar does not. From a systems biology perspective, you will first notice fresher breath and then less new buildup. Existing tartar does not disappear with a supplement and requires professional dental cleaning at the veterinarian.
The probiotic strains establish themselves in the mouth. Initial improvement in breath.
Fresher breath. Ascophyllum influences the formation of new plaque.
Less new buildup and tartar. Calmer gums.
Daily use for maintenance, preferably after professional cleaning and alongside tooth brushing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Does existing tartar disappear with Oral Support?
No. Existing tartar requires professional dental cleaning at the veterinarian. Oral Support supports the inhibition of new plaque and fresher breath.
Why do you need to open the capsule?
The oral probiotics and calcium hydroxyapatite work best with direct contact with the teeth. Mix the contents into a small amount of (wet) food.
Is Oral Support suitable for cats?
Only in consultation with the veterinarian, as cats have a limited ability to break down green tea extract (EGCG). Also consult first in case of a thyroid condition, due to the iodine in seaweed.
When do you use Oral Support and when a phase-based program?
Oral Support is the fast-acting primary remedy for bad breath and plaque, and for daily maintenance after professional cleaning. If the gums are chronically inflamed or complaints keep returning, an intake is useful. An inflamed mouth rarely stands alone: the Gut Restoration Program is then often the foundation.
Can Oral Support be used alongside a program?
Yes. Oral Support can be combined with any NGD Care program, including the Gut Restoration Program.

Vet Pro Line: fast-acting for acute symptoms
Oral Support is part of the NGD Vet Pro Line: fast-acting supplements that specifically reduce an acute problem. One capsule contains the complete base, from a systems biology and integrative perspective: seaweed, three oral probiotics, and adhesion inhibitors. This makes Oral Support the primary remedy for bad breath, plaque, and irritated gums, without the immediate need to start a full program. For chronic complaints, the phased approach remains the foundation, with the Gut Restoration Program as the basis: a restored gut is the foundation for any chronic recovery.
Works well with
Oral Support works from within on plaque and oral flora. The supplements below strengthen the mouth from the outside and via the immune system.
Oral Support Spray
Oral Support Spray is a mouth spray with thyme ct. linalool, coriander, and myrrh that works locally on teeth and gums. Oral Support works from within. Together, they provide the most complete oral approach.
Gut Support
The mouth and gut form one continuous microbiome. A healthy gut flora also supports the balance in the mouth.
Lactoferrin
Lactoferrin occurs naturally in saliva and inhibits bacteria that need iron to grow. A logical addition for gum inflammation.
Liposomal Vitamin C
Vitamin C is necessary for the production of collagen in the gums. Relevant for red or easily bleeding gums.
