Description

Short summary

This supplement helps with: supporting the heart and blood vessels in older dogs and cats, in breeds predisposed to heart problems, and alongside regular heart medication. Use in consultation with the vet.

How does Cardiovascular Support work for the heart and blood vessels?

The heart muscle constantly uses energy, largely derived from burning fatty acids in the mitochondria. If this energy supply falters, the heart muscle loses strength. Cardiovascular Support supports the heart on three levels: heart muscle cell energy, blood vessels, and protection against oxidative stress.

Taurine and L-carnitine are essential for the heart muscle. L-carnitine transports fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they are converted into energy. In some dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), low taurine or carnitine levels have been found, including in certain breeds and diets. For cats, taurine is an essential amino acid: a deficiency leads to heart muscle problems. Liposomal CoQ10 is indispensable in the energy production of the heart muscle cell and has been studied in humans with heart failure. Magnesium, as highly absorbable bisglycinate, contributes to normal muscle function and heart rhythm.

Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) supports coronary artery blood flow and the heart’s pumping power. L-arginine is the building block of nitric oxide (NO), which helps blood vessels relax. Olive leaf extract (oleuropein) and hibiscus support normal blood pressure in human studies.

Cardiovascular Support is part of the NGD Vet Pro Line: the foundation of the heart protocol in one supplement, used under the guidance of a vet.

What does this supplement do?

  • Core supplement of the NGD Care heart protocol, in consultation with the vet
  • Supports heart muscle energy metabolism via taurine, L-carnitine, and CoQ10
  • Contributes to normal heart function and heart rhythm via magnesium
  • Supports flexible blood vessels and circulation via hawthorn, olive leaf, and L-arginine
  • Liposomal CoQ10 for better absorption
  • Supplement to regular heart medication, never a replacement, always in consultation with the vet

When do you see results?

Heart support is a long-term approach. From a systems biology perspective, taurine, carnitine, and CoQ10 build up in the heart muscle over weeks. The effect is measured by stamina and vet check-ups, not by a quick change.

Weeks 1-4

Build-up of taurine, carnitine, and CoQ10 in the heart muscle.

Week 4-8

Increased stamina and energy during walks in some animals.

Month 2-3

Heart check-up at the vet: ultrasound, blood pressure, and taurine testing where necessary.

Month 3+

Long-term daily use, alongside any medication and periodic check-ups.

Coughing, shortness of breath, rapid breathing at rest, or fainting? Go to the vet immediately. Questions about use? Contact us via our app or email, or schedule an intake with integrative vet Stefan Veenstra via NatuurlijkGezondeDieren.nl.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does Cardiovascular Support replace heart medication?

No, never. It is a supplement alongside diagnostics and medication, always in consultation with the vet.

Can Cardiovascular Support be used alongside pimobendan or ACE inhibitors?

Discuss this with the vet. Hibiscus, olive leaf, and L-arginine can further lower blood pressure, and hawthorn can affect the action of digoxin.

When is taurine extra important?

Always for cats, as taurine is essential for them. For dogs with DCM, especially in breeds or diets where low taurine levels are known.

When do you use Cardiovascular Support alone and when the heart protocol?

Cardiovascular Support is always used in consultation with the vet. On its own, it is suitable for seniors or breeds predisposed to heart problems. For a diagnosed heart condition, the full Heart Support Protocol is the foundation, with Cardiovascular Support as the core supplement, alongside diagnostics and medication.

Can Cardiovascular Support be used together with a protocol?

Yes. Cardiovascular Support can be combined with any NGD Care protocol, including the Gut Recovery Protocol. Within the heart support protocol, Cardiovascular Support is the core supplement.

Core supplement of a protocol

Cardiovascular Support is the core supplement of the NGD Care heart protocol. It bundles the foundation of that protocol into one capsule: heart muscle energy, heart rhythm, and circulation. The protocol is intended for vets or followed in consultation with your own vet, with diagnostics such as ultrasound and blood pressure as the starting and measuring points.

Works well with

Cardiovascular Support supports the heart muscle and blood vessels. The supplements below strengthen inflammation balance, mitochondria, and kidneys.

O-Mega Blend (Calanus oil)

Omega-3 has been studied in dogs with heart failure, including for muscle loss and rhythm disturbances. A logical foundation alongside Cardiovascular Support.

Longevity Support

NAD+ supports the mitochondria, the powerhouses the heart muscle needs continuously. Relevant for older animals.

Renal Support

The heart and kidneys strongly influence each other. In older animals with a heart problem, kidney function deserves extra attention.

Liposomal Glutathione

The heart muscle is sensitive to oxidative stress. Glutathione supports the antioxidant protection of the heart muscle cell.

This information is educational in nature and does not replace a veterinary consultation. Do not use in case of low blood pressure. Hawthorn can affect the action of heart medication such as digoxin, and hibiscus, olive leaf, and L-arginine can enhance blood pressure lowering drugs: always use alongside medication in consultation with the vet.
