Colloidal silver is simply purified water with very small silver particles. For centuries, silver has been used to keep things clean. In modern, mild formulas—such as sprays or drops—colloidal silver is mainly used for care and hygiene of the skin and mucous membranes in humans and animals. Think of: keeping it fresh, cleaning, keeping the “microclimate” (the environment) of a place calm.
Short and sweet: it is not a medicine, but a care product that you use in a targeted and temporary way when extra hygiene or care is desired.
How does silver work
Under the microscope you can see that silver can disrupt unwanted microorganisms . You can see it as a hygienic support: local, soft and without sharp odors or alcohol. Exactly why many people like it for sensitive areas.
What do ppm and “particles” mean?
ppm = “parts per million” (e.g. 10 ppm). That is the concentration.
Higher is not necessarily better. The purity and mild composition (without alcohol/perfume/preservative) are at least as important, especially for sensitive skin or mucous membranes.
A spray or drop is especially useful for targeted, topical use.
When do people choose colloidal silver?
As a gentle care after exposure to dust, wind, sun or swimming.
For extra hygiene in a place that quickly becomes restless (e.g. skin folds, paws after outside).
If you prefer to use additives-free: without alcohol, perfume or preservatives.
If you want to be able to support people and animals with one mild leash.
How do you use it? (Indications & administration)
The tools below are practical and accessible. Use temporarily and in a targeted manner. Do you not notice any improvement within a few days, or does something get worse? Then contact your (veterinary) doctor.
1) Nose (nasal hygiene / fresh nasal mucosa)
Indication: keep clean/fresh in case of dust, pollen or dry air.
Administration: 1–2 sprays per nostril, 2–4× per day, 3–7 days.
Maintenance: 1–2× per day or as needed.
2) Ear (external ear canal)
Indication: after swimming, dust or before gentle cleaning.
Administration: 2–4 drops, 1–2× per day for 3–5 days.
Tip: gently massage the auricle bases; dab excess moisture.
3) Eye rim / eyelids (external only)
Indication: mild care of the skin around the eye (lash line/eyebrow).
Administration: Lightly dampen a gauze pad and gently pat/wipe 1–2× per day.
Hygiene: a clean gauze per eye.
4) Skin (small, intact areas)
Indication: keep clean and fresh after sports/scratching/shaving.
Administration: 1–3 sprays, 2–4× per day, 3–7 days, let dry briefly.
5) Paws & skin folds
Indication: after playing outside or in heat/moisture.
Administration: Spray on gauze and wipe between toes/folds 1–2× per day.
6) Oral mucosa/gums (external rinsing)
Indication: temporary, mild care of the oral mucosa.
Administration human: 5–10 ml of rinsing 1–2× per day, 30–60 sec → spitting out.
Animal administration: moisten gauze/finger cloth and gently wipe gums.
7) Intake (only on advice)
Colloidal silver can also be used orally, but only on the advice of a (veterinary) doctor or therapist, with an appropriate schedule and dosage. This is not a standard application for personal use.
Smart use: 5 practical tips
Start slowly: start 1–2× per day and build up to 3–4× if that feels appropriate.
Work clean: do not touch spray head/cap with skin or mucous membrane.
Evaluate: Has the goal been achieved? Stop or continue as maintenance (less often).
Pets: adjust frequency to size and sensitivity (it is better to start a little too low than too high).
Store in a cool and dark place, and close the package tightly.
Contraindications (when not to do it)
Known allergy/hypersensitivity to silver or (possible) excipients.
Hole in the eardrum (suspicion/diagnosis): no drops in the ear.
Deep eye damage/corneal damage or severe eye symptoms: have it assessed first.
Very young or pregnant animals/humans: use only after professional advice.
Avoid prolonged, intensive internal exposure (we want to avoid accumulation).
Interactions (good to know)
When taken orally (only on advice): silver can reduce the absorption of tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones and thyroxine , among others, → plan intake 3–4 hours separated.
In case of topical application (skin/mucosa): interactions are less likely, but it is best not to use at the same time in exactly the same place with products containing halogens or quaternary ammonium compounds .
Important but kept short: do symptoms persist or worsen? Contact your (veterinary) doctor.
Oral intake: possible, but only on advice with a personal schedule.
