Description

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is a body’s own compound involved in regulation of pain, inflammation, and immune activity via receptors such as PPAR-α, GPR55, and cannabinoid-like pathways. It is produced in the body during stress, tissue load or inflammation, but this production can be insufficient in chronic complaints. Boswellia serrata contains boswellic acids, including AKBA (acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid), which, among other things, inhibit 5-LOX and thus reduce the production of pro-inflammatory leukotrienes.

The combination of PEA and Boswellia offers a dual action: PEA supports the modulation of neuroinflammation and pain perception, while Boswellia acts specifically on inflammatory pathways in tissues. The liposomal matrix ensures that both substances are better absorbed and available more quickly to the cells involved.

This supplement can be used for long-term pain, overstimulated nervous system, joint strain, muscle tension, inflammation sensitivity and recovery processes. The formula is mild, well tolerated and suitable for people who want natural, systemic support without the impact of heavy painkillers.

  • Side effects
    • Mild: dry mouth, mild nausea, soft stools.
    • Rare: skin reaction in Boswellia hypersensitivity.
  • Interactions
    • Boswellia (particularly AKBA) selectively inhibits 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), reducing the production of leukotrienes (LTB4, LTC4). This may enhance the action of drugs that target leukotriene pathways (such as montelukast).
    • Boswellia also has mild inhibition of COX-1/2, which could theoretically have an additive effect when used with NSAIDs. There is evidence that Boswellia may affect certain phase I enzymes, including mild inhibition of CYP subtypes, but clinical relevance is limited.
    • PEA works via PPAR-α activation, which modulates inflammatory pathways such as NF-κB and mast cell activity. It does not directly affect CYP enzymes, but can affect sensitivity to painkillers (synergistically).
    • When using strong immunomodulators, anticoagulant medication or polypharmacy (e.g. oncology, rheumatology), consultation with a doctor is desirable.
