Description

Vitamin C is an essential antioxidant that plays an important role in the immune system, collagen production, energy metabolism and protection against oxidative stress. Most forms of vitamin C are broken down quickly in the gastrointestinal tract, which limits absorption and can cause abdominal discomfort at higher doses. NGD Care therefore uses a liposomal form, in which the vitamin C is encapsulated in phospholipids. As a result, it is absorbed more directly through the lymph and is better tolerated by sensitive intestines.

Liposomal vitamin C supports the immune system both in acute situations and preventively. Due to its high absorption, it reaches the cells that depend on sufficient ascorbate faster, such as immune cells, liver cells, fibroblasts and brain tissue. Vitamin C is also necessary for the synthesis of collagen, which contributes to skin repair, vascular wall strength and healthy connective tissue.

Because vitamin C is involved in hundreds of biochemical processes, the demand for ascorbate is extra high during stress, infections, chronic stress or recovery periods. The liposomal form makes it possible to achieve high bioavailability with low to moderate doses, without the risk of gastrointestinal complaints that occurs with ordinary vitamin C. This supplement can be safely used daily and fits perfectly into integrative protocols.

    • Mild: soft stools (rare with liposomal), mild nausea on an empty stomach.
  • Interactions
    • Vitamin C affects multiple enzymatic processes, including regeneration of glutathione and vitamin E. It increases iron absorption by converting Fe³⁺ to Fe²⁺, which is relevant in hemochromatosis or use of iron supplements (keeping your distance).
    • Vitamin C may affect the action of anticoagulants by improving endothelium and collagen breakdown, but there are no strong direct CYP450 interactions.
    • It can affect the excretion of some medications through urine pH, especially at very high dosages (> 2–3 g/day), such as salicylates or certain amphetamine derivatives.
    • In chemotherapy: some protocols rely on oxidative stress mechanisms (e.g., anthracyclines). Vitamin C may be antioxidant at extremely high doses (clinical IV), but oral liposomal doses within physiological ranges typically do not have a clinically significant antagonistic effect. Always consult a doctor during oncological processes.
