PEA is a body’s own fatty acid amide that is involved in the endocannabinoid system. It plays an important role in inhibiting inflammatory processes and pain stimuli by, among other things, interacting with the PPAR-α receptor. PEA has an anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and immune-modulating effect. Applications include osteoarthritis, arthritis, nerve pain, intestinal complaints, skin complaints and glaucoma.
Boswellia serrata (Indian frankincense) is an extract of resin with powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Its active components, such as boswellic acids, inhibit enzymes such as 5-LOX that are involved in chronic inflammation. Boswellia is traditionally used for joint pain, autoimmune diseases, respiratory diseases and irritable bowel complaints.
The combination of PEA and Boswellia provides a strengthening (synergistic) effect: PEA regulates nerve conduction and inflammatory response, while Boswellia suppresses these processes on a biochemical level. This makes this combination suitable as a natural alternative or supplement to regular painkillers (such as NSAIDs).
