NGD Care – Biofilm Balance (Formerly Enzyme Mix 2) is an advanced formula to support the gut microbiome in dogs and cats. The combination of N-acetylcysteine (NAC), lactoferrin and specific digestive enzymes has been developed to address biofilm formation in the gut and make the gut environment more accessible again.

Biofilms are protective structures in which microorganisms such as bacteria, yeasts or parasites can hide. Within this matrix, they are difficult to reach for the immune system and less sensitive to regular interventions. This can contribute to the maintenance of dysbiosis and chronic complaints.

A disruption of the gut microbiome is often accompanied by biofilm formation and an overgrowth of, for example, Candida albicans, Clostridium or E. coli. These microorganisms can produce substances that stress the intestinal wall and contribute to low-grade inflammation and increased intestinal permeability.

The formula of Biofilm Balance contains several components that complement each other:

• N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
  NAC is known for its ability to disrupt the structure of biofilms, including by breaking sulfur bonds within the matrix.
• Lactoferrin
  Lactoferrin is a body’s own protein that binds iron and thus inhibits the growth and biofilm formation of microorganisms. In addition, it has a direct disruptive effect on existing biofilms and supports the natural defense and intestinal barrier. Lactoferrin makes biofilms unstable and inhibits the regrowth of pathogenic microorganisms, making it an important supplement in addition to NAC in breaking biofilms.
• Amylase, protease and lipase
  These enzymes help break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, respectively, within the biofilm structure. This allows the matrix to be further broken open and made more accessible.

When is Biofilm Balance often used?
Biofilm Balance is often used in animals with signs of intestinal imbalance, such as fluctuating stools, skin problems, itching, ear problems or chronic complaints in which the microbiome plays a role. The supplement fits within a broader, integrated approach to gut health.

Please note: this supplement should always be part of a broad bowel repair protocol and not used on its own. During the clearing of the biofilm, toxins can be released that cause a detox reaction. The supplement should therefore always be combined with liver, intestinal and immune system support agents.
