Description

Para Reset: NAC and Berberine for Biofilm Degradation and Intestinal Remediation in Dogs, Cats, and Humans

Para Reset combines two well-researched molecules in one formula: N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and berberine. Together, they tackle the problem that almost always forms the core of recurrent intestinal infections and chronic dysbiosis: pathogenic biofilm. A biofilm is the protective matrix with which unwanted microorganisms attach themselves in the intestine and effectively shield themselves from the immune system and therapeutic agents. As long as the biofilm is intact, symptoms will return, regardless of the treatment.

NAC breaks the extracellular biofilm matrix via degradation of disulfide bridges in the protein structure, making the trapped pathogens accessible. At the same time, NAC is a direct precursor of glutathione, the most abundant intracellular antioxidant. It restores the glutathione pool in liver and immune cells, restores the functionality of macrophages and neutrophils, and supports the expression of tight junction proteins in the intestinal wall. Biofilm breakdown releases toxins that must be cleared by the liver; NAC also supports this detoxification process.

Berberine has demonstrated direct antimicrobial activity via inhibition of bacterial DNA replication and membrane disruption. It is effective against Giardia, Candida, dysbiotic bacteria and other intestinal parasites. Berberine also inhibits quorum sensing, the communication system with which bacteria organize a new biofilm, which makes recolonization after treatment more difficult. A clinically relevant advantage over antibiotics is its relative selectivity: berberine inhibits pathogenic species without significantly damaging the desired Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium populations.

The combination has a nice synergy: NAC makes the pathogens accessible, berberine eliminates them. At the same time, NAC restores immune function so that the body can actively clean up what berberine releases.

Para Reset is a core component of the NGD Care Giardia Protocol and is used in the Intracellular Microbe Protocol. It is widely applicable to recurrent Giardia, chronic diarrhea, SIBO, intestinal dysbiosis, Candida overgrowth, skin complaints from the intestine and chronic inflammation with an intestinal component.
