Description
QUICK SUMMARY
Liposomal Curcumin is a complementary feed for dogs and cats with 300 mg Curcuma longa extract per capsule, of which 100 mg is curcumin. This supplement is formulated to maintain healthy cells and tissues.
What’s in this supplement?
Each 500 mg capsule contains 300 mg Curcuma longa extract, of which 100 mg is curcumin. The curcumin is encapsulated in liposomes?: tiny fat globules made from sunflower lecithin. Additionally, the capsule contains maltodextrin as an excipient. The shell is made of HPMC and is therefore plant-based.
The biochemistry of curcumin
Curcumin. Curcumin is the yellow pigment found in turmeric. It belongs to the polyphenols?, a group of plant compounds.
Absorption. Curcumin dissolves poorly in water and the body breaks it down quickly. Therefore, very little enters the bloodstream.
Liposomes. Liposomes are tiny fat globules that encapsulate the curcumin. This significantly improves absorption into the blood.
In the body. Researchers are looking at the influence of curcumin on signals within the cell. This research has primarily been conducted with cells and laboratory animals.
How strong is this evidence? The chemistry and metabolism of curcumin are well-documented. Much of the data on signaling pathways comes from cell and animal trials, and some of those results are debated due to the chemical properties of the substance. Less research has been conducted on dogs and cats.
What does this supplement do?
- Curcuma longa extract is formulated to maintain healthy cells and tissues.
- Curcumin is a polyphenol given for protection against free radicals?.
- The liposomal form was chosen to support the absorption of this fat-soluble substance.
How to use this supplement
Give twice daily for a maximum of 6 to 8 weeks: under 10 kg ½ capsule, from 10 to 30 kg 1 capsule, and over 30 kg 2 capsules.
After that, give the same amount once daily.
Give the capsule whole or open it and mix the contents into the food.
Curcumin can affect the breakdown of some medications. Consult your vet first if your pet is on medication.
Frequently asked questions
Why liposomal curcumin?
Curcumin dissolves poorly in water and is quickly converted after absorption. Liposomes are tiny fat globules that encapsulate the curcumin. We choose this form to support absorption.
Why is there no piperine in it?
Piperine? from black pepper affects enzymes? that break down curcumin, and thus also the breakdown of other substances. NGD Care chooses the liposomal form instead.
What is the difference with golden paste?
Golden paste is a mixture of turmeric, fat, and black pepper. In liposomal curcumin, the substance is encapsulated in liposomes. These are therefore two different preparations.
My pet is on medication. Can I still use curcumin?
Consult your vet first. Curcumin can affect enzymes that break down medications, such as CYP2C9 and CYP3A4. See Dosage and use for further precautions.

Works well with
PEA? is an endogenous lipid and curcumin is a polyphenol from turmeric. Both substances are fat-soluble and are being researched within various signaling pathways.
Omega 3 contains omega-3 fatty acids and curcumin is a polyphenol. These are two different groups of nutrients.
Glutathione? is the most important antioxidant? within the cell. Curcumin is being researched in relation to Nrf2, a signaling pathway associated with the production of glutathione.
Gut bacteria convert curcumin. Prebiotic fibers serve as food for gut bacteria.

- Iron-binding effect in case of overdose, risk of anemia
- Interactions
-
curcumin is a potent inhibitor of various CYP enzymes (CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP3A4) and transporter proteins (including P-glycoprotein). This can slow down the breakdown of medications, leading to increased blood levels of agents such as blood thinners, anti-depressants, and antiepileptics. There is also a potentially increased anticoagulation and mildly increased risk of liver burden.
