NGD Care Skin Support supports dogs and cats with itching and allergic skin complaints. Liposomal PEA and quercetin modulate the mast cells that release histamine, while MSM, zinc, and biotin contribute to a normal skin barrier and a shiny coat.

Suitable for: itching, licking, and scratching in atopy, recurring skin inflammation, a dry or dull coat. Part of the NGD Vet Pro Line: quickly deployable during an itch flare-up. For chronic skin complaints, the phased protocol is the foundation, with the Gut Recovery Protocol as the basis.

Description

Short summary

This supplement helps with: itching, licking and scratching, redness and recurring skin inflammation due to allergies (atopy), and a dry, dull coat in dogs and cats.

How does Skin Support work for itching and allergic skin complaints?

Mast cells play a central role in allergic skin complaints. When triggered, these immune cells in the skin release histamine and other inflammatory substances, resulting in itching and redness. PEA (palmitoylethanolamide) is a substance the body produces itself to modulate mast cells. Supplementation with PEA has been studied in dogs with atopic dermatitis, resulting in reduced itching.

Quercetin is a plant-based flavonoid that stabilizes mast cells and inhibits histamine release. Vitamin C supports the breakdown of histamine and is necessary for collagen production in the skin. PEA, quercetin, and vitamin C are liposomal: encased in a layer of phospholipids that improves absorption through the intestinal wall. This makes a significant difference, especially for poorly soluble PEA and quercetin.

MSM provides organic sulfur, a building block of keratin and collagen in the skin and coat. Zinc and biotin contribute to the maintenance of normal skin and coat and support the renewal of the skin barrier: the outer layer that retains moisture and keeps allergens out.

Skin Support is part of the NGD Vet Pro Line: one supplement containing the complete foundation per acute problem, so you don’t have to combine multiple products yourself. For chronic complaints, the phased protocol is the foundation, starting with gut recovery.

What does this supplement do?

  • Quickly deployable during an itch flare-up, without immediately requiring a full protocol
  • Supports calm skin during itching, licking, and redness
  • Modulates mast cells via PEA and quercetin: the source of histamine in the skin
  • Contributes to a normal skin barrier and a shiny coat
  • Liposomal PEA, quercetin, and vitamin C for better absorption
  • Can be combined with standard allergy treatments, in consultation with a veterinarian

When do you see results?

Skin complaints have a fast and a slow component. From a systems biology perspective, itching responds first because PEA and quercetin act directly on mast cells. A restored skin barrier and coat follow the growth cycle of skin and hair and require more time.

Week 1-2

PEA and quercetin begin to modulate mast cells. In some animals, the first reduction in scratching and licking occurs.

Week 2-4

Less itching and redness. Quieter nights without scratching.

Month 1-3

The skin barrier recovers. Fewer flakes, shinier coat due to zinc, biotin, and MSM.

Month 1+

In case of an acute flare-up, taper off once the skin is calm. If the itching is chronic (atopy), the protocol via the gut-skin axis is the foundation, with the Gut Recovery Protocol as the basis.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How quickly will I see a reduction in itching with Skin Support?

In many dogs and cats, itching decreases from week 2 to 4, as PEA and quercetin modulate the mast cells in the skin. The skin barrier and coat improve over 1 to 3 months.

Can Skin Support be used with allergy medication?

Yes, Skin Support can be given alongside standard allergy treatments such as oclacitinib or lokivetmab. Consult a veterinarian first when using cyclosporine. Always taper off medication in consultation with a professional.

Why are PEA and quercetin liposomal?

PEA and quercetin dissolve poorly in water and are poorly absorbed. A phospholipid coating improves absorption through the intestinal wall.

When do you use Skin Support versus the Skin Support protocol?

Skin Support is the fast-acting first-line remedy for a flare-up of itching, licking, or redness. If the itching is chronic, such as with atopy, or if skin infections keep recurring, the phased protocol is the foundation. This starts with restoring the gut (via the Gut Recovery Protocol) in combination with the Skin Support Protocol, as the gut-skin axis plays a central role in chronic skin complaints.

Can Skin Support be used alongside a protocol?

Yes. Skin Support can be combined with any NGD Care protocol. For chronic skin complaints, Skin Support is a logical addition within the protocol.

Vet Pro Line: fast-acting for acute symptoms

Skin Support is part of the NGD Vet Pro Line: fast-acting supplements that specifically reduce acute problems. One capsule contains the complete foundation from a systems biology and integrative perspective: mast cell regulation, skin barrier, and coat nutrition. This makes Skin Support the first-line remedy for an acute itch attack or skin flare-up, without needing to start a full protocol immediately. For chronic complaints, the phased protocol remains the foundation, with the Gut Recovery Protocol as the basis: a restored gut is the foundation for any chronic recovery.

Works well with

Skin Support acts on mast cells, the skin barrier, and the coat. The supplements below address the inflammatory balance and the gut.

Omega 3 (Calanus Oil)

Omega-3 is incorporated into skin cell membranes and shifts the inflammatory balance. Together with Skin Support, it provides the broadest support for skin and coat.

Gut Support

Via the gut-skin axis, a disrupted gut flora is linked to allergic skin complaints. Gut Support supports the gut, Skin Support the skin.

Curcumin

Curcumin inhibits NF-kB, while PEA acts via mast cells and PPAR-alpha. Complementary pathways for chronic skin inflammation.

Lactoferrin

Lactoferrin supports the immune system via the gut and is part of the Skin Protocol. Relevant for recurring skin infections.
