Description

Short summary

This supplement helps with: stiffness after rest, difficulty getting up, jumping or climbing stairs, osteoarthritis, and reduced mobility in older dogs and cats. Also suitable as prevention for large breeds and active dogs.

How does Joint Support work for osteoarthritis and stiff joints?

In osteoarthritis, joint pain is not just a matter of wear and tear. Low-grade inflammation occurs within the joint, further breaking down cartilage and making pain nerves more sensitive. Joint Support targets this inflammation via three complementary pathways, while simultaneously providing building blocks for the joint.

Green-lipped mussel (Perna canaliculus) contains omega-3 fatty acids, including the rare ETA, and glycosaminoglycans. It is one of the best-researched natural joint ingredients in dogs, with placebo-controlled studies on mobility in osteoarthritis. Boswellia serrata inhibits the 5-LOX enzyme, an inflammatory pathway that common painkillers (NSAIDs) do not reach. Liposomal PEA tempers mast cells and hypersensitive pain nerves in and around the joint.

MSM provides sulfur for the production of cartilage and connective tissue. Liposomal CoQ10 supports energy production in the mitochondria of cartilage and muscle cells and protects against oxidative stress, which is increased in osteoarthritis.

Joint Support is part of the NGD Vet Pro Line: the foundation of the Joint Protocol in one supplement, without the need to combine multiple joint products yourself.

What does this supplement do?

  • Core supplement of the NGD Care Joint Protocol
  • Supports flexible joints and mobility in osteoarthritis
  • Acts on three inflammatory pathways: 5-LOX (boswellia), mast cells (PEA), and omega-3 (green-lipped mussel)
  • Provides building blocks for cartilage and connective tissue via MSM and green-lipped mussel
  • Liposomal PEA and CoQ10 for better absorption
  • Suitable for long-term use, also alongside pain medication in consultation with the veterinarian

When do you see results?

Joints recover slowly. From a systems biology perspective, inflammation and pain sensitivity decrease first. Support of cartilage and connective tissue is a matter of months.

Week 1-2

PEA and boswellia begin to temper inflammatory activity. Little visible effect yet.

Week 2-6

Less stiffness after rest, easier to get up. Green-lipped mussel builds its effect gradually.

Month 2-3

Clearly improved mobility and more enjoyment in walking. Pain medication can sometimes be reduced in consultation with the veterinarian.

Month 3+

A long-term supplement for osteoarthritis. Preventative for large breeds during growth, for other dogs from 2 to 5 years, depending on size.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How quickly does Joint Support work for osteoarthritis?

Reduced stiffness after rest is noticeable in many animals from week 2 to 6. Green-lipped mussel builds its effect gradually; the full effect is seen after 2 to 3 months.

Can Joint Support be used alongside painkillers (NSAIDs)?

Yes. Boswellia and PEA work via different pathways than NSAIDs such as meloxicam or carprofen. Any reduction in pain medication should always be done in consultation with the veterinarian.

From what age can you give Joint Support preventatively?

For large breeds during growth, for other dogs from 2 to 5 years, depending on size.

What is the difference between Joint Support and Mobility Support?

Joint Support focuses on inflammation and pain in the joint: green-lipped mussel, boswellia, and liposomal PEA act on three inflammatory pathways, supplemented with MSM and CoQ10. Mobility Support primarily provides building blocks for cartilage and connective tissue. Thus, Joint Support inhibits the inflammation that breaks down cartilage, while Mobility Support supports the build-up. In osteoarthritis, they complement each other and are used together within the Joint Protocol.

Can Joint Support be used with PEA Complex?

Yes, but usually it is not necessary. Joint Support already contains liposomal PEA and boswellia, the active substances in PEA Complex. During a flare-up with significant pain, PEA Complex can be added temporarily for a higher dose of PEA. Then taper back to Joint Support alone.

When do you use Joint Support individually and when the Joint Protocol?

Joint Support is the core supplement of the Joint Protocol. Individually, it is suitable for early stiffness or as prevention. For osteoarthritis with clear pain, lameness, or multiple symptoms at once, the full Joint Protocol is the foundation, with the Gut Recovery Protocol as the basis: low-grade inflammation from the gut helps maintain joint inflammation.

Can Joint Support be used in conjunction with a protocol?

Yes. Joint Support can be combined with any NGD Care protocol, including the Gut Recovery Protocol. Within the Joint Protocol, Joint Support is the core supplement. Coordinate the combination via the app, email, or an intake to ensure ingredients are not duplicated.

Is Joint Support suitable for those with a shellfish allergy?

No, Joint Support contains green-lipped mussel.

Core supplement of a protocol

Joint Support is the core supplement of the NGD Care Joint Protocol. It combines the foundation of that protocol in one capsule: anti-inflammatory action via three pathways, building blocks for cartilage, and cellular energy. For chronic joint issues such as osteoarthritis, the protocol works in phases, with the Gut Recovery Protocol as the foundation: low-grade inflammation from the gut helps maintain joint inflammation.

Works well with

Joint Support inhibits inflammation and supports the joint. The supplements below add building blocks and additional pathways.

Mobility Support

Mobility Support provides eggshell membrane, collagen type II, glucosamine, and chondroitin as building blocks for cartilage. Joint Support inhibits the inflammation that breaks down cartilage. Together they inhibit and build up.

Omega 3 (Calanus oil)

Omega-3 inhibits the COX inflammatory pathway. A supplement to the 5-LOX inhibition by boswellia and mast cell inhibition by PEA.

Liposomal Curcumin

Curcumin inhibits NF-kB, the central switch of chronic inflammation. A pathway that Joint Support does not cover.

CBD oil

CBD acts on pain via the endocannabinoid system. PEA enhances the action of the body’s own anandamide. Mechanistically synergistic for chronic pain.
