Description
Short summary
This supplement helps: dogs and cats with declining kidney function, elevated renal values (such as SDMA or creatinine), and as support alongside a kidney diet. Use in consultation with your vet.
How does Renal Support work for declining kidney function?
In chronic kidney disease, kidney filters (nephrons) are gradually lost. The remaining nephrons must work harder. This leads to inflammation, oxidative stress, and the formation of scar tissue (fibrosis), which further accelerate the loss. Renal Support targets this vicious cycle. Lost kidney tissue does not return: the goal is to support the remaining tissue as effectively as possible.
Cordyceps and astragalus are adaptogens from Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Research shows anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects in kidney tissue, partly by inhibiting the TGF-beta pathway that drives fibrosis. Rehmannia glutinosa is a classic herb in TCVM for kidney deficiency in older animals. Important to note: research on these herbs mostly comes from cell and animal models and human studies. Clinical data for dogs and cats are limited.
The kidneys are among the most energy-demanding organs in the body. Liposomal CoQ10 supports energy production in the mitochondria of kidney cells. Liposomal curcumin inhibits inflammation and oxidative stress via NF-kB and Nrf2. Nettle is rich in flavonoids and is traditionally used to support the kidneys and urinary tract.
Renal Support is part of the NGD Vet Pro Line: the core of the renal protocol in one supplement, used under the guidance of a veterinarian.
What does this supplement do?
- Core supplement of the NGD Care renal protocol, in consultation with your vet
- Supports kidney function in older dogs and cats
- Targets inflammation, oxidative stress, and fibrosis in kidney tissue
- Supports the energy metabolism of kidney cells via liposomal CoQ10
- Combines TCVM adaptogens with orthomolecular substances
- Supplement to kidney diet and regular treatment, always in consultation with your vet
When do you see results?
In kidney support, stability is the goal. From a systems biology perspective, kidney function that does not decline further is already a good result. Blood and urine values are the benchmark, not just how the animal feels on a given day.
Loading phase. Little visible: CoQ10 and curcumin accumulate in the tissue.
In some animals, more energy and a better appetite.
Check renal values (creatinine, SDMA, urea, phosphate) and urine at the vet.
Long-term use with periodic monitoring. Goal: stable kidney function and a good quality of life.
Have renal values checked after 2 to 3 months. Questions about use? Contact us via our app or email, or schedule an intake with integrative vet Stefan Veenstra via NatuurlijkGezondeDieren.nl.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Does Renal Support replace a kidney diet?
No. Renal Support is a supplement to a kidney diet, fluid management, and medication.
How do you measure the effect of Renal Support?
By renal values (creatinine, SDMA, urea, phosphate) and urinalysis, checked after 2 to 3 months. Stable kidney function is already a good result.
How strong is the evidence for Renal Support?
For cordyceps, astragalus, and rehmannia, research primarily comes from cell and animal models and human studies. Clinical data in dogs and cats are limited. CoQ10 and curcumin are mechanistically well-supported.
When do you use Renal Support alone versus the renal protocol?
Renal Support is always used in consultation with your vet. Alone, it is suitable for seniors with slightly elevated renal values or preventatively. For diagnosed chronic kidney disease, the full Kidney Support Protocol is the basis, with Renal Support as the core supplement and the Gut Recovery Protocol as the foundation via the gut-kidney axis.
Can Renal Support be used together with a protocol?
Yes. Renal Support can be combined with any NGD Care protocol, including the Gut Recovery Protocol. Within the renal protocol, Renal Support is the core supplement. Coordinate the combination via the app, email, or an intake to ensure ingredients are not duplicated.

Core supplement of a protocol
Renal Support is the core supplement of the NGD Care renal protocol. It bundles the essentials of that protocol into one capsule: anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic herbs, and mitochondrial support. The protocol is intended for veterinarians or is followed in consultation with your own vet, using blood and urine tests as the starting and measuring points.
Works well with
Renal Support supports kidney tissue. The supplements below address the gut-kidney axis and inflammatory balance.
Omega 3 (Calanus Oil)
Omega-3 has been studied in dogs with reduced kidney function and supports blood flow and inflammatory balance in the kidney.
Gut Support
Via the gut-kidney axis, gut bacteria produce substances (such as indoxyl sulfate) that put extra strain on the kidneys. Healthy gut flora relieves the kidneys.
Liver Support
The liver and kidneys share the task of waste removal. In older animals, both organs are often strained.
Longevity Support
NAD+ and ergothioneine support mitochondria and cell repair during aging. Relevant for seniors with declining kidney function.
